50
General Engineering and Environmental Management Services
Citizen Convenience, Twin Chimneys Landfill, Greenville County, South Carolina
At the Enoree Landfill, Greenville County handled residential customers and self unloading waste trucks together at
the landfill tipping face. This could cause significant problems especially during wet weather operations. In order to
eliminate this problem the Twin Chimneys Landfill site was designed to include a separate area for receiving
residential loads and transferring them to the working face. HDR worked with the County to establish the design
criteria and the resulting residential drop -off center. The center was designed to separate residential customers
from the waste trucks as early as possible and to provide an obvious destination for the residents.
The building provides about 12,000 square feet of covered space and two drive- through pits with locations for
storing three trailers along the retaining wall. The paved area is large enough to accommodate special collection
events; tire, white goods and yard waste drop off; along with mulch pickup areas.
An attendant kiosk is located on the inbound drive to greet customers and direct them to the appropriate unloading
spot.
Page 35 fal
