49~ <br />MTNUTES 1 <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARA OF COMN:ISSIONES <br />August 16, 1983 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, <br />August 16, 1983 at 7:30 P.M. in the Courtroom of the Old Post Office Building, <br />Chapel Hi11, North Carolina. <br />Commissioners Present: Richard E. Y7hitted, Chair, and Commissioners Ben <br />Lloyd, Shirley E. Marshall, Norman Walker, and Don Willhoit. <br />A - HERD.. CObIN~~ <br />Commissioner 4Thitted moved Items 9 and 11 after Ttem C-2, and added a <br />report on the Water and Sewer Agreement. <br />Commissioner Marshall removed from the agenda the appointments to the Child <br />Care Task Force (part of Item D-3). <br />B. <br />1. ~~~ <br />Peter Burger and Robert Greenberg requested to speak on the Animal Control <br />Ordinance. <br />Jane Cousins requested to speak on the Community Services Restitution <br />Program. <br />2. ~~~.SL,S not <br />There were no comments. <br />C-1 ~~___.9s~ '.~ <br />Commissioner 4dhitted noted that the Board of Commissioners had established <br />$50,000 in the capital reserve fund, pending a more concise understanding for <br />location of the building requested by Orange Industries. <br />Martin Freed stated he was waiting for a 'response to a community <br />development fund application submitted through the Town of Carrboro, and that <br />Orange Tndustries has been working with the OPC Mental Health Board, which is <br />examining the plans and budgets for approval of the transition from the public <br />to the private domain. Representatives of Orange Tndustries requested from <br />Vocational Rehabilitation and received a 6 month extension on the S50,D00 grant <br />to raise matching funds. <br />Commissioner Lloyd noted that he has found three locations in the Central <br />part of the county for consideration. <br />C-z C_4.mD]].~.l~f4r_Women ~~ya~ <br />Virginia Tveisz highlighted the stabilization o£ membership: ten (10) new <br />members were acquired in the 1982-83 year and five of .the seven townships in <br />Orange County are presently represented. The Employment Committee held a <br />workshop in the winter, with 43 women in attendance; four women attending <br />.. .. were accepted into training programs, and two found jobs by referrals from <br />Commission members; a microfiche for jab listings is now available in the <br />- Hillabarough library. <br />The Continuing Education Committee held an information luncheon for <br />community leaders in the spring with approximately 65 attendees and sent <br />letters to approximately 200 high school dropouts informing them of the <br />referral information available.
