~/ ,E'S-~~7-ay3 <br />~ ~ / o?-- o2oa ~' <br />~~ J <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE BUDGET FOR THE STATE OF <br />NORTH CAROLINA BE APPROVED BY JULY 1, 2007 <br />WFIEREAS, General Statute 159-8(b) requires counties to adopt a balanced budget ordinance <br />each year by July Is ;and, <br />WFIEREAS, the State of North Carolina hands down mandates yearly that must be funded by <br />local governments as well as other legislation directly affecting county budgets; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, there are still numerous bills in the General Assembly that, if passed, will affect <br />county budgets significantly; and, <br />WHEREAS, counties still do not know the outcome of Medicaid relief -whether there will be <br />any relief or how much and if there is any relief whether it will be temporary or <br />permanent; and, <br />WHEREAS, without Medicaid relief, many counties will have to either raise taxes or cut <br />employees, programs andlor services; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners requests <br />that the North Carolina General Assembly and the Governor of North Carolina <br />have the State's budget approved by July 1S` so counties can complete their budgets <br />according to State Statutes and address the many issues, mandates, and requests <br />placed before them. <br />This the 12`~ day of June 2007 <br />l~Io~es Carey, Jr., Chair <br />Orange County Board of <br />
