County Manager, reported to the Board on <br /> 6. the request by the Councilville, Rangewood, Robinswood. and 5toneybrook <br /> 7. neighborhoods to amend Village Cable's Franchise to permit Alert Cable <br /> 8. to serve those areas. He reviewed the criteria for cable service <br /> 9. contained within the cable franchise granted to Village. He also <br /> 10. provided the numbers of homes served when measured by cable miles <br /> 11. as well as car miles. The Manager said the franchise agreement is <br /> 12. unclear as to the kind:of measurement required. The Manager said <br /> 13. the neighborhoods did not meet the extension requirements of at <br /> 14. lease 30 homes per -mile and he estimated that it would take at least <br /> 15. 8.3 years for that density to be reached. In other words, they don 't <br /> 16. meet the requirement for "no cost subscription" but they may for <br /> i7, option number 2, (that is, if twenty potential subscribers per mile <br /> 18. sign a petition asking Village for service) . <br /> 19. Mr. Jerry Cooper, resident of Robinswood, reiterated his request <br /> _ 20, that the -Village franchise be amended to permit Alert to serve the <br /> 21. area. He was adamant about wanting the cable t.v. service. <br /> 22. Mr. Geoffrey Gledhill , County Attorney, said that the Village <br /> �3, franchise does not have to be amended to permit Alert to serve this <br /> 24. area; however, the Alert franchise, currently "pre-existing use", <br /> �5- would have to be amended. <br /> 26. Mr. Eugene Brandt, resident of Robinswood, also urged the Board <br /> 27, to permit Alert Cable to extend the lines. <br /> 28. Mr. Pete Pettis, Vice President of Alert Cable T.V. , told the <br /> 29. 8oard that his company had been approached by the residents and asked <br /> 30, for service. He added that if Village Cable is unwilling to provide <br /> 31- the service his company is willing to provide that service. He passed <br /> 32, out a map to the Board members and said that his lines are 12.2 miles <br /> 33. from those neighborhoods and he estimates that Alert would .pass 800 <br /> 14, homes in that range. <br /> 35. Board members explained the process involved in the selection <br /> 36. of a Cable television company to provide service to the County and the <br /> 37. basis of the award of the franchise. <br /> 38. <br /> 39. <br /> 400 <br />
