Ms. Jinny Weisz, Commission member and member of the Sub- <br /> 5, committee which produced the Affirmative Action Report, summarized <br /> 6, the reasons for the report and the methodology. Ms. Judy McNeill <br /> 7, provided a summary of the statistical data and its findings, i .e. <br /> - 8_ in comparisons of males to females and whites to blacks, the males <br /> 9, and whites were paid more than the females and blacks. Ms. Margaret <br /> 10, Brown summarized the ten recommendations of the Commission on Women <br /> 11, Subcommittee on Affirmative Action. (A copy of this report is on <br /> 12, file in the Office of the Clerk to the Board. ) <br /> 139 The Board thanked the Commission members for a good report and <br /> 14, said it would review the recommendations. The Board asked the Manager <br /> 15, to study the Report and to work with the Board to "enact the recom- <br /> 16, mendations. " Commissioner Willhoi.t asked for additional data, saying <br /> 17, that "considerable progress has been ma.de" in this area. <br /> 18, F. BOARD DECISIONS <br /> 19, 2. Jail Completion Discussion: Mr. Joseph Nassif, architect for <br /> 20, the Orange County Jail , was present to respond to Board questions con- <br /> 21, cerning that project. <br /> 22, Commissioner Lloyd made a "statement" that most people felt the <br /> �3, jail should have been built on the lower parking area adjacent to the <br /> 24, Courthouse and not in its present location. Commissioner Lloyd asked <br /> 25, why the bathrooms were built so large? Mr. Nassif replied that those <br /> 26, referred to by Commissioner Lloyd were built for handicapped accessibility. <br /> 27, Mr. Nassif listed the agencies and individuals who had reviewed and <br /> 28, approved each step of the jail . He emphasized that it met all State <br /> 29, criteria for such a facility. <br /> 30, Commissioner Lloyd questioned the design of the "exercise yard. " <br /> 31. Mr. Nassif responded that the area referred to is not an exercise yard <br /> 32, but an area where inmates may be taken in the event of fire or smoke <br /> 33. u.nder supervision.. <br /> 34• Mr. Nassif furthered noted that the design of the jail made it <br /> 35, expandible and the potential added cells were far beyond the County's <br /> 36, needs. <br /> 37, The Board thanked Mr. Nassif for his comments and presence. <br /> 38. <br /> 39. <br /> 40- <br />
