strategic initiatives 15: <br />Keeping North Carolina competitive by actively recruiting and encouraging the expansion of high - <br />value, technologically advanced industries and companies. We target companies considered "high - <br />tech" in industries such as telecommunications and biotechnology, and companies that apply new and <br />irmovative technology to remain competitive in traditional industries, such as textiles and furniture. <br />Service-oriented industries such as healthcare, education, and financial services are also core <br />components of the state's economy. <br />Increasing economic opportunities for our state in a global economy by ensuring that North <br />Carolina is recognized throughout the world as an attractive location for growing businesses, for the <br />high quality of its workforce, and for its appeal as a tourism, film, and sports development <br />destination. <br />Improving economic opportunities for all of our citizens through programs targeted to people and <br />places not currently enjoying economic prosperity. <br />Implementation of North Carolina's economic development strategic intentions has been structured by <br />prioritizing industry clusters at both the state and regional level through the regional partnerships <br />(Figure 3). <br />Figure 3. Because Orange County borders the Piedmont - <br />Triad Regional Partnership, we can expect residents on our western border to be impacted by state and <br />regional marketing and recruiting efforts to also attract aerospace, chemicals /plastics /rubber, furniture, <br />logistics and distribution, and food processing/agri4ndustry development. <br />Orange County and the RTRP Advantage <br />Orange County is one of the three urban core counties that comprise the heart of the RTRP, one of seven <br />economic development districts established by the State in 1994 as a mechanism for targeting, recruiting, <br />and retaining business into the region as well as for attracting federal economic development - related <br />resources.
