I found the work
challenging, and enjoyed working with the many partners who were involved.
Attached you will find a complete copy with attachments of my report. As my work
progressed two possible answers to the Heritage Center came into focus. Based on the
amount of materials that the various institutions held, I felt that these items could be
digitized and thereby "virtuall)r' brought together for individuals doing research in
Orange County, a stated goal of the project. In fact, working with the UNC NC Heritage
Digitization Center, this work will be done for free, and will be accessible to all on the
World Wide Web.
In the very last phase of my work, the Orange County Historical Museum voiced its
interest in the possibility of expansion with an opportunity to oversee the envisioned
Heritage Center. As the time committed to this project is ending, I encourage that this
new possibility be explored. Ultimately, it could become the perfect solution. However,
this will necessitate discussion between the County and the Board of the Museum.
I hope that my work will provide the information that Hillsborough was seeking. Once
again, I wish to thank all the partners that gave their time to this important consideration.
Sincerely,
Barbara E. Taylor
Consultant
