Museum was closed <br />for expansion from 1997 to 2001. Working with staff and contractors, successfully re-opened the facility in 2001 <br />with redesigned and newly installed exhibits. <br />• Responsible for oversight of 7 museum buildings and negotiated the purchase of three properties for <br />future expansion. <br />• Oversaw the restoration of a log structure by communicating daily with staff, Board, and contractors and <br />ensuring an effective schedule and plan was in place which resulted in being awarded the Gertrude 5. <br />Carroway Award for Historic Preservation from NC Preservation. <br />• Created "88 Keys for Coltrane" campaign that raised over $19,000 to purchase and restore the piano of <br />John Coltrane, High Point resident. Campaign received national attention. <br />• Acquired the furniture manufacturing collection of a closing museum and supervised the successful <br />reinterpretation and reinstallation of the exhibit, including the award of $150,000 IMLS grant. <br />• Increased African American membership approximately 300%resulting from changes in exhibits <br />recommended by the community. <br />• Published African American Gallery Guide that won awards from the American Association of Museums, <br />the Southeastern Museum Conference and the North Carolina Museums Council. <br />Historic Rosedale Plantation, Charlotte, NC 1998-2000 <br />Historic 1815 Plantation home with appropriate period furnishings and 8 acres of gardens. <br />Executive Director <br />Responsible for $200,000 budget, staff of 3 and all programs. <br />• Monitored restoration of original 1815 wallpaper. <br />• Arranged for and supervised archaeological research to discover location of original slave quarters and <br />other out buildings. <br />Museum Consultant September, 1997-October, 1997 <br />Conducted a comprehensive review of operations, budget and staffing for Historic Rosedale Plantation and <br />provided recommendations for future direction of site, activities and funding opportunities. <br />
