30
Graham Building
118 N. Churton Street
Hillsborough, NC
762 Square feet
This building is almost square in design. The floor plan supports essentially four rooms with a
small area for a toilet and sink, and a short hall with exterior door to the rear. The entrance
room is the largest of all and if used as a Heritage Center, would be the room to accommodate
research tables and chairs. One room would contain an office. The other two rooms would be
the only space available for file cabinets, shelving and storage. The walls are solid and are load
bearing. The building cannot be reconfigured.
Each room has windows that let in natural light. The areas where archives are stored or viewed
should be protected from light by sealing the windows or shading them.
There are no parking spaces associated with this building, though there is a parking lot just
north and west of the building.
Assessment:
This building might be suitable as an Heritage Center, at least for the next five years, or longer,
depending on how much new material is collected. After monitoring the building for heat and
air fluctuations, there may be a need to do some renovations to enhance the environment for
storage of archival materials. However, the existing space is perceived as a vast improvement
over current storage space at the Orange County Museum.
