23
Attachment C
Abbreviated Master Survey for Heritage Center Project
1) What advantages do you see ih creating the Heritage Center?
Assist, not disappoint visitors who come to do research
To combine collections
Help the town overall in attracting tourism
If History Museum & Heritage Center combined, they would have space for museum's 3500 artifacts as
well as good storage for archives
One place to do research.
Essential for community... infrastructure. So many entities collecting independently.
More heritage tourism
Accessible by the public, contains all our records, essential for researchers coming to town.
No research space at history museum
Create "one stop shopping for Orange County History', greater hours of access, larger facility that would
allow growth and expansion, a broader scope.
2} What problems do you see in creating the Heritage Center?
Funding !
Political structure of county, no tie to "old Orange Co:'
Doesn't see problems in creating this archives
Creating another non-profit
If museum combined and relocated, lose a good location. Town owns building, so relocation could impact
increase in budget
Community involvement... work groups ceased activity, didn't come to conclusion.
Funding
If we give everything, we give away our value
Sustainability
Not self-sustaining
There really is NO collection, copies of copies. Several history groups want limited access to material, not
open access. Limited time of access. Who would be owner of documents? Who would pay for building,
operation, etc. How would you achieve compatibility in cataloging, finding aids, etc.?
County very political, takes longer to get things in motion.
Needs to be a public private partnership. Can't be publicly supported only.
Purchase Building has been identified as a building that could be used for this purpose. County awarded
for its adaptive reuse. There is a water issue in the back 2000 feet of building.
3) Do you have documents you will not want to share? What are they? Why?
Don't have any documents
Would give all electronic files they have.
As long as basic archival needs are met, they would be ok to turn over documents
Would give copies of all our files. Possibly scrapbooks of local civic organizations.
Would give copies of materials
