ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 18, 2010 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Contract Between US Housing and Urban Development and Orange County: <br />Economic Development Initiative Grant for the Piedmont Food & Agricultural <br />Processing Center <br />DEPARTMENT: Economic Development PUBLIC HEARING: (Y /N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Contract (Under Separate Cover— To <br />Be Provided Prior To Or At The Meeting) <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Noah Ranells, 245 -2330 <br />Brad Broadwell, EDC Director, 245 -2325 <br />PURPOSE: To approve a contract with US Housing and Urban Development (HUD) accepting <br />a $237,500 Economic Development Initiative grant for the Piedmont Food and Agricultural <br />Processing Center. <br />BACKGROUND: In 2009, Orange County submitted a federal grant request through <br />Congressman David Price for funds to support the Piedmont Food & Agricultural Processing <br />Center. With Congressman Price's leadership, the County received a $237,500 grant to <br />support the Center. A contract from HUD to review and approve accepting the grant is <br />attached. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Approval of the contract and accepting the grant will provide $237,500 <br />for the Center. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the BOCC approve the contract subject <br />to County Attorney review and authorize the Chair to sign the contract documents. <br />
