General Engineering and Environmental Management Services 33 <br />Wake County, North Carolina <br />HDR is providing engineering consulting services to Wake County <br />through a General Services contract which includes a multitude of <br />projects within the Wake County Environmental Services system and the <br />Wake County Facilities Design and Construction group. HDR has <br />provided consulting services with the closure of the North Wake Landfill, <br />the procurement and operation of the City of Raleigh Transfer Station <br />operations and hauling contractor, environmental assessment of the <br />closed East Wake Landfill, and assistance with establishment and <br />operation of the South Wake Landfill — Phase 1B. Project activities <br />include assistance with: <br />41- <br />• Review of closure of construction documents prepared by others. Key Elements: <br />• Oversight of the Phase 1B construction including review of the construction, •Contract procurement <br />construction submittals, and CQA documentation. • Operational assistance <br />Consulting relating to soil planning and uses for the long -term needs of the Construction oversight <br />South Wake Landfill. <br />• Preparation of airspace management reports. <br />• Evaluation of South Wake Landfill waste capacity options. <br />• Preparation of contract between the County, the City of Raleigh, and waste hauling contractor. <br />• Review of transfer station construction documents and construction progress. <br />• Assistance with scale house operations such as intercom and security systems. <br />HDR, as a teaming partner with Olver, Inc., assisted Wake County with the establishment and operation of the South <br />Wake Landfill (SWLF) — Phase 1A located in Holly Springs, NC. Project activities include: <br />• Assistance with managing the operations portion of the Agreement. <br />Additional work associated with the SWLF included coordination with Waste <br />Industries and the contractor regarding construction materials and activities including <br />other projects and operations at the site. HDR/Olver also provide assistance as it <br />relates to the permitting and construction of the SWLF with the construction of the <br />new scale house, wetlands permitting and mitigation, transfer station operations, and <br />on -site soil resources. <br />Key Elements: <br />• Bentonite amended clay liner <br />• 21-acre cell and ancillary <br />features <br />• Privately operated, publicly <br />owned landfill <br />• Political and public <br />challenges <br />Since HDR is under contract with both the Wake County Environmental Services <br />Division and the Facilities Design and Construction Division, we have included our contact information for both. <br />Page 18 IM <br />
