z,
General Engineering and Environmental Management Services
HDR is an innovative leader in developing solid waste management systems and facilities for our public and private
sector clients. We have been involved in all aspects of evaluating, planning, designing, and procuring both traditional and
trend - setting facilities. Based on our history and experience noted above, over 10 % of the nation's waste is processed or
disposed of in a solid waste facility designed by HDR.
HDR is fully aware of, and routinely monitors, changes in legislation and regulations that may affect the County's solid
waste management and operations. We have established a strong understanding of the NC Department of Environment
and Natural Resources (NCDENR) regulations and regulatory impacts on your business. We also have a broad
knowledge of national legislation and regulations, which enables HDR to successfully complete projects. Our presence
in North Carolina since 1961 has provided extensive interaction with the NCDENR personnel on a variety of projects
including solid waste management planning, facility siting studies, permitting, design, and construction of numerous
innovative waste management facilities.
HDR's employees are very involved in the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) on both the national and
local level. Several of the staff on the Carolinas team are members of national and local technical committees. Mr. Joe
Readling is an officer of the North Carolina Chapter of SWANA and is an active member of the Policy Committee. Joe
also is Chair of the Technical Committee. Mr. Ed Shuffler is a founding member and Past President of the North
Carolina Chapter and currently serves on the Chapter's Training and By -Laws Committee. Mr. Dean Ferry is a certified
trainer with SWANA and regularly provides training to landfill and transfer station operators.
HDR Experience in Orange County's Category of Services
HDR has vast experience in completing projects of similar scope as requested by the County.
We have provided engineering services related to solid waste projects for numerous clients in the Carolinas and
Virginia including:
North Carolina Clients
• City of Charlotte
• City of Greensboro
• City of Winston -Salem
• Carteret County
• Gaston County
• Mecklenburg County
• Moore County
• Wake County
• Coastal Regional Solid Waste Authority
• Guilford County
• Chatham County
• Triangle J Council of Governments
Virginia Clients
• Allied Waste Industries
• Southeastern Public Service Authority
• Roanoke Valley Resource Authority
South Carolina Clients
• Charleston County
• Greenville County
• Williamsburg County
• Georgetown County
• Sumter County
• Florence County
• Oconee County
• Hoary County Solid Waste Authority
• Richland County
• Beaufort County
• Appalachian Council of Governments (ACOG)
• Three Rivers Solid Waste Authority
Following is an experience matrix identifying services similar to those that will be required by the County.
Page 6 faq
