80
77
this airport does not meet those needs. Such an airport needs to be
I
` near industrial and transportation sites. He said individual develop-
` ers should not make decisions that affect the well-being of the entire
County and all citizens.
Mr. Roger Smith: (no residence given) Made three points:
I
1) the impact of the development will not stop at the property lines
he asked that the agricultural nature of the Township be maintained;
I
2) There are other. alternatives to Hosrace.Williams which a,e..better;
3) That no matter what happens to Horace Williams Airport it is of
no concern to Bingham Township and its compliance with the Zoning
Ordinance.
i
Mr. Bland Simpson: Resident .of Bingham Township, said he is
opposed tq the location of the airport in this area. It is not in
compliance with the Land Use flan Goals of Bingham and Planning
Staff had found it not to be in compliance with those goals. it
will tax the farmers out of the County. It will increase develop-
mental pressure and would result in the loss of some of the most
productive farmland and dairyland in the County. He asked that
the County consider all reasonable alternatives for an airport
and that the Township remain Agricultural as the law now says it is.
Mr. Ronny Kirk: A resident of Bingham Township, said you
shouldn't change the zoning too easily. As a volunteer fireman,
he would rather protect his neighbors' homes and families than pro-
tect Midway.
Ms. Carol Cantrell: A citizen of Chapel Hill, spoke tegarding
the safety factor associated with Horace Williams Airport. She said
she is a teacher in two of the schools which lie near HWA and fre-
quently airplanes fly very low to the schools and drown out the
activity occurring inside the schools. She said the kids are sittin
ducks. She said there was a lot of gratuitous - air traffic; She
asked that the Board get the airport out of town (Chapel Hill) .
Mr. Tom Helburn: A resident of Bingham Township, is opposed
to the Midway Airport being located here. He feels the airport is
simply the tip of a wedge. He wants to preserve the green spaces
