1. <br /> 00271 <br /> 2. <br /> 3. <br /> MINUTES <br /> 4. <br /> DECEMBER 21, 1981 <br /> 5. <br /> 6. <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular <br /> 7• <br /> session adjourned from December 15, 1981, at twelve noon in <br /> the Commissioners' Room, Orange County Courthouse, Hillsborough, <br /> 9. <br /> North Carolina. <br /> 10. <br /> Commissioners present: Chairman Richard E. Whitted, and <br /> 11. <br /> Commissioners Norm Gustaveson and Don Willhoit. <br /> 12. <br /> Commissioners absent: Commissioner Norman Walker <br /> 13. <br /> Chairman Whitted called the meeting to order and stated its <br /> 14. <br /> purpose, that is, to receive the recommendation from the Democratic <br /> 15. <br /> Executive Committee to replace Anne C. Barnes who resigned to <br /> 16, <br /> accept appointment by the Governor of North Carolina to the House <br /> 17. <br /> of Representatives. <br /> 18. <br /> Chairman Whitted added one other item from J.P. Goforth <br /> 19. <br /> concerning the purchase of property along the proposed I-40 corridor <br /> by the Department of Transportation. Mr. Goforth requests the <br /> -l. <br /> County approve a consent authorizing the Department of Transportation <br /> 22. <br /> to release funds held to Goforth Properties. <br /> 23. <br /> Commissioner Gustaveson moved, seconded by Commissioner Willhoit, <br /> 24• <br /> 25. to approve the consent and to authorize the Chairman to sign it. <br /> Vote: Ayes, 3; noes, 0. <br /> 26. <br /> Chairman Whitted read the letter from Mr. Anderson Little, <br /> 27. <br /> 28. Chairman of the Orange County Democratic Executive Committee. The <br /> letter listed three recommendations to fill the vacancy on the Board <br /> 29. <br /> of Commissioners created by the resignation of Ms. Barnes. The <br /> 30. <br /> three recommendations were Moses Carey, Shirley E. Marshall and <br /> 31. <br /> Judy Cox. <br /> 32, <br /> Chairman Whitted told the three recommended persons, who. were <br /> ;3, <br /> all present, they could address the Board if they desired. Each <br /> 34- <br /> nominee did address the Board and gave a brief overview of their <br /> 35. <br /> concerns and interests. <br /> 36. <br /> Following the presentations, the Board of Commissioners elected <br /> 37. <br /> to wait for several minutes for Commissioner Walker. <br /> 38. <br /> 39. <br /> 40. <br />
