Chairman Whitted asked Commissioner Barnes if she would <br /> 5. continue- to preside until the end of this meeting; Commissioner <br /> 6, Barnes acceded to the request. <br /> 7. The Board deferred consideration of the members' various com- <br /> 8, mittee appointments until the first Monday in January. <br /> 9. 2. Dr. Pamela Mayer <br /> 10. Dr. Mayer, Superintendent of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools, <br /> reported to the Board on.her efforts to set up a decision making _ . <br /> 12. model. She said while accountability was ultimately her responsibility, <br /> 13. she wanted to involve the community and staff in the schools' operation. <br /> 14. As a result, several committees have been formed; Superintendent's <br /> 15. Advisory Committee (this committee was in existence earlier.and is <br /> 16. continuing) , Professional Personnel Policies Committee, GT Task Force, <br /> 17. Bi-racial Steering Committee, Student Advisory Committee, and a <br /> 18. Science and Technology Committee in the planning stage. A new com- <br /> 19. mittee is the Redistricting Committee which will begin work by Feb- <br /> 20.• ruary 1 to redraw district lines to achieve racial balance in the <br /> 21• schools'. <br /> 22• Dr. Mayer said her staff had begun to work up preliminary pro- <br /> 23. gram costings for the budget process and would send those program <br /> 24• costings to the Board. <br /> 25• The Board thanked Dr. Mayer for her presentation. <br /> '26. Commissioner Gustaveson said he had forgotten to request that <br /> 27e the Manager send to NACo headquarters a copy of the County logo to <br /> 28. be included with others for a display. Commissioner Barnes noted <br /> 29. that she had an announcement to make. <br /> 30• 3. Audit Report . <br /> 31• Mr. Phil Wilson and Mr. Ron Dietrich of Peat, .Marwick, Mitchell <br /> 32. & Company, reported to the Board on its audit of the County's books <br /> 33e and records. <br /> 34. Mr. Dietrich said his firm made several suggestions: <br /> 35. 1) the property tax levy be recorded at the beginning of the <br /> 36• year and that that reconcilliations to the general ledger be made <br /> 37. monthly; 2) analysis of balance sheet accounts monthly; 3) better <br /> 38.. <br /> 39. <br /> 40. <br />
