Animal Services Tethering Committee Meeting Wednesday, March 7a`, 2007, 7:00 — 8:30 p.m. Meeting Summary Location: Conscience Room, Southern Human Services Center, 2501 Homestead Road, and Chapel Hill OC TC Members and Staff Present: Jean Comm -at Austin, Mary Dow, Aline Koki, Michael Nelson, Suzanne Roy, Kelly Strowd, Animal Services Director Robert Marotto, Animal Control Manager Irene Paul, Office Assistant Lisa Smith. OCTC Members Absent: Rachel Beckham, Kristine Bergst<and, and Margie Huggins. Others in Attendance: Amanda Arrington. Approval of Meeting Summary from February 276, 2007: Motion was made Jean Connera t Austin to approve Meeting summary and seconded by Suzanne Roy. VOTE: Unanimous Agenda Review: The proposed Agenda for this meeting was reviewed and accepted General Public Continents: Amanda Arrington with Coalition to Unchain Dogs spoke regarding the importance of banning the tethering, of dogs in Orange County. She talked about a recent incident of a child being attacked by one of the family's dogs that was chained in the backyard in Durham Obtaining Public Input: There was a discussion on how to get public input to allow people to comment on the tethering issue. It was decided staff would create a simple survey to hand out at the next rabies clinics regarding if they are for or against tethering and informing residents of the public input meeting. Getting information on Animal Services Website with a brief introduction and links to ordinances with tethering bans and tethering lin*ations.
