Commissioner Barnes told the Aldermen and Mayor that the Board of Ccan- <br /> 8i missioners could not evaluate what they heard tonight because: 1) the location <br /> 9. of the area under discussion had not been revealed: 2) the impact of develop- <br /> -.0 rent on persons 1XVIng in the area was i nknom; and 3) the impact of the <br /> 11 number of potential jobs was an unknown also. <br /> '-4• The Boards agreed to get these concerns of Carrboro's on an agenda of <br /> 132. the Joint Planning Coamittee as soon as possible. <br /> 34a Agenda Item 2: Fec cation <br /> 15- Mayor Drakeford invited the Board of ommissioners to a ribbon-cutting <br /> ceremmy planned for 1 P.M. on October 25, 1981, of its new park. He said <br /> 17. it would be one of the largest parks in ventral t3orth Carolina. almost a <br /> 13. regional park. <br /> 19• The Mayor suggested that since the park would benefit a large niunber <br /> 20„ of County residents in sauth Orange, perhaps the County would like to share <br /> 2a. in the programs, maintenance and upkeep of the park. <br /> 22' Mr. Wayne Weston, orange County Recreatim Director, presented the 'back- <br /> 21. ground Of the County's participation In recreation programs. He noted tl`at <br /> 2L-• there were areas in northern Orange with no parks: that the Towns of Carrboro <br /> 25� and Chapel. Hi]1 had established parks for their citizens and consequently, <br /> b. <br /> orange County had"channeled the money where the needs were greater." <br /> 27. The Mayor reiterated Carrboro's concern, that is, that perhaps the <br /> 20. County could aid in the reticent of the debt incurred to build its new <br /> 29• park and maintenance and upkeep of the park. The Tmm'Manager, Mr. Richard <br /> 30• Hunter, said there were a great number of county residents served by this park <br /> 31. and that it was a question of unbalanced dollars." <br /> 32• There followed some discussion of the type of services the County funded <br /> 33e which flowed into the municipalities, for example, EMS, human services, Chapel <br /> 34- Hill-Carrboro schools, Health. <br /> 35.
