Eurosport Soccer Center Master Plan Revision and Additional Parking
The Board considered a potential revision to the approved Master Plan for the Eurosport
Soccer Center and authorizing construction of the expanded Phase 2 parking lot using existing
capital funds.
Commissioner Gordon said that she had asked for additional information on this. She
said that it looks like the concern is that there are more people than parking spaces on Tuesday
and Thursday evenings between 6-8 p.m. and if there is a tournament over the weekend, there
are not enough parking spaces. She said that this parking problem seems to have a rather
limited time frame and she asked why improved scheduling could not be used to address this
issue.
Parks and Recreation Director Lori Taft said that Tuesdays and Thursdays are the worst
conflicts with all of the school activities. There are a lot of spectators for these activities and the
parking lot for the school is at capacity. She said that it is a serious problem and people are
getting blocked in and parking in the fire lane.
Commissioner Gordon asked why this would take precedence over other pressing needs
since this item is being discussed outside of the budget process and it is a tight budget year.
Frank Clifton said that, in researching this item, there was supposed to be an agreement
between the schools and the County, but it did not happen. He said that whether there is parking
there or not, people are going to park there anyway and park anywhere. He said that if the
County builds a facility, it should build enough parking to support the activities.
