The BOCC will conduct a more in -depth review of the recommended <br />CIP at a budget work session on March 29. This March 27 meeting will provide an opportunity <br />for CHCCS to highlight the major elements of their proposed CIP, including their projected need <br />for a new elementary school by 2003 -2004 which is unfunded in their CIP. <br />b) Acquisition of New School Sites <br />Last fall, the Chapel Hill - Carrboro Board of Education appointed a Long Range Facilities Master <br />Planning Committee to plan for major future needs, especially new schools. That committee <br />has written to the Superintendent with a recommendation that CHCCS consider purchasing <br />several new school sites. This meeting will provide CHCCS the opportunity to review potential <br />school sites with the Board of Commissioners. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact tied directly to the discussion at this <br />meeting. However, decisions that may be made by one or more of the elected boards at <br />subsequent meetings are likely to have significant implications for future capital and operating <br />budgets. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the boards discuss the issues noted <br />and provide direction to staff, as appropriate. <br />
