fair Housing Activ-ities for 1998-99 <br />1. On a monthly basis a fair housing workshop was presented to participants in the "First <br />Time Home Buyers" program of the Orange County Housing Corporation. <br />2. At the annual NC-NAHRW conference in Asheville, North Carolina, the Orange County <br />Commission was instrumental in efforts to collaborate with the state director of the <br />NAACP in housing discrimination matters across the state. The state director of NAACP <br />was the luncheon speaker and agreed to further develop a collaborative effort. <br />3. In September 1998, the Commission assisted in presenting three community dialogues on <br />race, poverty and inequality. Fair Housing was one of the topics of discussion and both <br />HUD's and the Commission's role in investigating fair housing complaints. Over 300 <br />people attended the community dialogues. <br />4. In September 1998, the staff of the Department participated in a La Fiesta Del Pueblo, a <br />Hispanic/Latino festival, .held in Orange County each year. Information on fair housing <br />was provided to the more than 20,000 in attendance. <br />5. In October 1998, fair housing information was distributed to the more than 1.50 people in <br />attendance at the Orange County Women's Agenda Assembly. <br />6. In October 1998, the Commission in conjunction with the Orange County Hispanic Task <br />Force participated in a letter writing campaign to Orange County Banks about the lending <br />needs of the growing Hispanic population in Orange County. This was an effort to assure <br />that lending services are provided fairly to all Orange County citizens. <br />7. In October 1998, the Commission distributed fair housing and lending materials at the <br />Tri-County Women Business Owner's Conference.: More than 100 people were in <br />attendance. <br />8. The Orange County Board of Commissioners has set as two of their 1999-2000. Goals, <br />Hispanic/Latino Relations and Affordable Housing. <br />9. The Human Relations Commission held. their annual Pauli Murray .Annual Human <br />Relations Award Banquet. <br />10. The Human Relation Co-Sponsored a Regional Conference on Fair Housing for <br />providers and consumers. <br />11. The Human Relations Commission found "reasonable cause" in two fair housing cases <br />based upon discrimination in religion. <br />18 <br />
