Between 1950 and 1990 median household income in Orange County grew by an inflation
adjusted rate of 76%. In comparison, between 1950 and 1990 median family income increased
by an inflation adjusted value of 70%. Despite a 76% rate of growth, annual median income for
an Orange County household has historically been lower than the annual median income for a
county family.
Within Orange County, median household income varies across both townships and
municipalities. As seen in the table below households in Cheeks township had the lowest median
income in 1989, of all Orange County townships, while households in Carrboro had the lowest
median income for municipalities. .
1989 Household Income, by Township and Municipality
Township
Cheeks
Hillsborough
Chapel Hill Income
$ 26,071 _
$ 27,404
$ 29,433 Municipality
Carrboro
Hillsborough
Mebane Income
$19,799
$22,074
$23,214
Cedar Grove $ 30,625 Chapel Hill $30,143
-
Bingham $ 32,950 ~
-
Eno
Little River $ 34,456
$ 40,665 ~
~-
ource 1990
Census
D.
