ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: April 20, 2010 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~- f <br />SUBJECT: Contract between the Rural Advancement Foundation International -USA and <br />Orange County for 2010 Tobacco Communities Reinvestment Fund Grant for <br />Juicing Equipment at the Piedmont Food and Agricultural Processing Center <br />DEPARTMENT: Economic Development PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Contract <br />Value-Added Processing Center Capital <br />Project Budget Ordinance <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Noah Ranells 245-2330 <br />Brad Broadwell 245-2325 <br />PURPOSE: To approve a contract between the Rural Advancement Foundation International - <br />USA and Orange County fora 2010 Tobacco Communities Reinvestment Fund Grant and <br />accept $28,819 for juicing equipment for the Piedmont Food and Agricultural Processing <br />Center. <br />BACKGROUND: In Fall 2009, a grant proposal was submitted to the Rural Advancement <br />Foundation International -USA seeking a 2010 Tobacco Communities Reinvestment Fund <br />Grant on behalf of the Piedmont Food & Agricultural Processing Center. Funds were requested <br />to purchase juicing equipment that will be stationed at the Piedmont Food and Agricultural <br />Processing Center. The grant was submitted by local fruit and berry producers who plan to use <br />the equipment on site. If the contract is approved and the grant accepted, the juicing <br />equipment will be owned and managed by Orange County and available to all users of the <br />facility. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Approval of the contract, acceptance of the grant, and approval of the <br />Capital Project Ordinance will provide $28,819 for the purchase of juicing equipment for the <br />Piedmont Food and Agricultural Processing Center. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board: <br />1) Approve the contract subject to County Attorney review and authorize the BOCC Chair to <br />sign the contract documents accepting the $28,819 grant; and <br />2) Approve the attached Capital Project Ordinance. <br />
