Orange County Board of County Commissioners <br />From: Sam Lasris, Chair . <br />Orange Unified Transportation Board <br />Subject: Recommendations Regarding Hallow Rock Access Area <br />— Master Plan <br />At its meeting on December 16, 2009, the Orange Unified Transportation <br />Board voted unanimously to recommend Orange County pursue closing <br />Pickett Road as proposed in the Proposed Master Plan for Hollow Rock Access <br />Area at New Hope Creek Phase 2. The board noted that few vehicles use the <br />unpaved portion of Pickett Road and most traffic already use Randolph Road <br />instead to access the paved portion of Pickett Road. <br />The process for closing Pickett Road in Orange County must be coordinated <br />with Durham County because the road traverses local jurisdictions and North <br />Carolina Department of Transportation Districts. Pickett Road is classified as <br />a Minor Thoroughfare in the Durham - Chapel Hill- Carrboro Metropolitan <br />Planning Organization 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan. The 2035 Long <br />Range Transportation Plan must be amended to remove Pickett Road as an <br />access between Erwin Road and US 15 -501 and an air quality analysis must <br />show that the 2035 plan will still be in conformity if Pickett Road is closed. <br />
