Tryon St., Hillsborough, NC 27278 (919) 245 -2660
To: David Stancil
Environment and Resource Conservation Department
From: Recreation and Parks Advisory Council
Date: January 28, 2010
Subject: Master Plan for the Hollow Rock Access Area
The Recreation and Parks Advisory Council (RPAC) reviewed the progress made by the
Hollow Rock Access Area planning group on several occasions. RPAC appreciates having
had the opportunity to recommend a member to serve on this planning group. Our
representative, Ingrid Medcalf kept us well informed as the meetings progressed.
At its November 4, 2009 meeting RPAC voted unanimously to endorse both versions of the
plan. The Council did not take a position on the Pickett Rd. question. In addition, they did
not choose to comment on the possible acquisition of the Barn on the TLC property.
The motion to endorse the plans includes the language that the park should be developed
"...when funding becomes available at a future date." It was their intent to support park
development in a priority order that makes sense for Orange County residents. Members of
the Council look forward to the day that ground can be broken on the Blackwood Farm
property and the Millhouse Rd. property as projects that could be considered for priority
funding.
RPAC appreciates the work of the committee members and staff in this lengthy process
