2 <br />MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />March 17, 1998 <br />7:30 p.m. <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on March 17, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. in <br />the Board Room at the Southem Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, immediately <br />following an open house and dedication ceremony for the Southem Human Services Center. <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Margaret W. Brown, and Commissioners Moses <br />Carey, Jr., William L. Crowther, Alice M. Gordon and Stephen H. Halkiotis. <br />COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant County Managers Rod <br />Visser and Albert Kittrell and Clerk to the Board Beverly A. Blythe (All other staff members will be identified <br />appropriately below) <br />NOTE: ALL DOCUMENTS REFERRED TO IN THESE MINUTES ARE IN THE PERMANENT <br />AGENDA FILE IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br />Chair Brown stated that citizens who have indicated a desire to speak on an item that appears <br />on the printed agenda will be recognized at the appropriate time. <br />b. Matters not on the Printed Agenda -NONE <br />PUBLIC CHARGE <br />Chair Margaret W. Brown dispensed with the reading of the public charge. <br />3. BOARD COMMENTS <br />Commissioner Halkiotis reiterated his suggestion that the County work with the two school systems on <br />the electric deregulation issue. He made reference to the Southem Human Services Center and said that <br />this new facility is one that citizens can be proud of. He talked with one of the architects, Mr. Glenn Coley, <br />who mentioned that the firm of Coley, Redfoot and Zack plans to donate $1,000 to be used for children <br />fumishings in the waiting room. He thanked them for their generous contribution. <br />Commissioner Carey thanked everyone for this facility. He received a letter from the three judges <br />about the safety of our court facilities. John Link said that County staff is aware of those concerns and plan <br />to respond to the judges about these concerns. <br />Commissioner Crowther also made complimentary comments about the building. <br />Commissioner Gordon thanked the citizens for providing such a wonderful building. <br />Chair Margaret Brown said that the building is magnificent and that everyone deserves a thank you for <br />their part. She also thanked Mr. Zack for his contribution for children fumishings. <br />
