He feels <br />that public access is very important - Public Access, Educational Access <br />and Government Access (PEG). Orange County does not have this now and <br />unless they get access channels and funding to support these access <br />channels, citizens in Orange County will miss out on a great deal of <br />information. <br />In answer to a question from Commissioner Gordon about cooperation <br />between the municipalities and the County, Bob Gwyn said that they get the <br />advantage of using the same consultant, attorney and essentially the main <br />points of the franchise renewal would be the same throughout the area and <br />the governments would act as a unit negotiating with the company. The <br />County is actually getting support for their request for lower densities <br />from other counties and municipalities. <br />David Brevard, Attorney for Triangle J and consultant for the <br />County in their efforts to negotiate a franchise agreement, said that all <br />the local governments have adopted a standard of 15 homes per mile in <br />their resolution if they had a less restrictive standard. They are <br />working to extend franchise agreements to a date that will be consistent <br />for the entire area. <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />Joseph Blocher spoke in support of a TV station channel access for <br />high school students interested in the arts. He said that television <br />combines all different kinds of visual arts including drama, sets, <br />production, planning, etc. This teaches responsibilities and appreciation <br />for the final product. He said that he knows the interest is high and <br />that students need to have the opportunity to express themselves. <br />Margin Rajendran supports high school students being involved in <br />community television. It is a forum that is needed because it reaches all <br />people of all ages. It would open career opportunities for those in high <br />school. She feels that support is abundant at Chapel Hill High School and <br />that everyone agrees that this is something needed in this community. She <br />would like for money to be put toward community access. <br />Gevevieve Halton said <br />part of community access tele <br />there are others with similar <br />with the arts but don't get a <br />that the arts be shown to the <br />voices out. <br />she is a member of a group that wants to be <br />vision and do a comedy show and she knows <br />wishes. In Chapel Hill it is very easy to get a beginning in the arts <br />because of all the opportunities available. He has seen many good things <br />come out of other community access channels and he gave several examples. <br />Eva Metzger said she is a member of Citizens for Access Television <br />and a local community producer who has produced 5 programs for the League <br />of Women Voters and others. She is a member of a non-profit corporation <br />for community access. <br />Don Yonavjak spoke about some shows that he has produced. He has <br />done documentaries as well as freedom of expression shows. He feels that <br />there is interest in public access and that this interest will grow. He <br />
