12
assessment. Many of the easy-to-do recommendations were implemented as they
were identified; others will be put into place during the next few months; and
still others have been assigned to a new standing committee of the Council for
further refinement. Norm Gustaveson, Chair of the Task Force, summarized the
recommendations as included in the agenda. This has been a three-year process
with volunteers who are all very highly qualified experts in their own field.
The main goal or concern throughout the process has always been patient
outcome. The EMS Council will be the ongoing body to oversee the strategic
planning process. He stressed the importance of public education, public
perception and public feedback. Dr. Tom Griggs summarized the next phase and
said that the challenge is to restructure what they are doing to make it
better at a reasonable cost or continuing what they are doing and make it
better by throwing more money into it. What the Council will be looking at
will be separating the two operations of transporting emergencies and
transporting non-emergencies. They want to be able to take better care of
people and create the outcomes they want to happen.
The Board received the report as information.
XI. APPOINTMENTS - NONE
XII.
