YOOTH COMMITTEE OF THE VIOLENT CRIME AND DRIIG ABIISE PROGRAM REPORT
FINAL REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Susan Worley gave this report and asked that the County
Commissioners endorse the recommendations made in the report.
In answer to a concern raised by Commissioner Willhoit, Ms. Worley
stated that this is primarily a Chapel Hill-Carrboro initiative and that maybe
they need to expand the committee and involve northern Orange County.
Commissioner Willhoit feels that the recommendations will take a lot of
resources and that it is important to get everyone to buy into the program so
that it can be approached on a need basis.
Chair Carey stated that they have placed money in the 1994-95
budget for this program. He would like to know how the "Support Our Schools"
and the "Communities in .Schools" programs fit in with this program.
John Link said that over the next six to eight months this
committee will aggressively pursue coordination and collaboration. It is his
hope that the Human Services Forum in the fall will address some of these
questions. He stated that there is a need to improve data dissemination
between nonprofit agencies and the government through updated computerization.
This item will be further discussed at the Commissioners' retreat in December.
A motion was made by Commissioner Insko, seconded by Chair Carey
to receive the report and support the followup as listed above.
VOTE: UNANIMOUS
B.
