Hill, NorF11 Cc-lmlina. <br />Coaunissioners present: CarCa[tissicnex Anne Barnes, Chair, and Cbnr- <br />mi.ssiariers Norman Gustaveson, Nornn-an Walker, Ri-d~rd L~itted and Don WiLlhoit. <br />C.omnissioner Anne Barnes presided aver the maeting and armouna°d <br />its purpose which is a budget work session e¢i the budget and po:esentati-an <br />' from the Orange County Schools. <br />~ Dr. dike Sites, Superintendent of the Orange Crnmty Schools. and <br />Mr. Oscar Compton, and Mr. Max Kennedy, Orange 4ounty Board of Education <br />.~nbers, all spoke in favor of capital funding far a new middle school to <br />f <br />replace A.L. Stanback School in Hillsborough- . <br />~ Pat Sumner spoke of the need to supply a "positive environment" for <br />the children and expressed concern over the lack of safety at the school <br />S (Stanback) . She noted. the sePara'ta-on of the buildings, lack of sidewalks, <br />{ csnwded parking lots and lace of recreatiarial facilities. <br />Todd Berry, a student, contrasted S*.~n't-~~k with the Efland-Chinks <br />School, citing paint. air conditioning, and reliability of the heating and <br />electrical systam~ at the latter school. Mr. Bey-"rY ec1'~d Ms• Sutrmer's <br />~ remarks including the poor cazdition of the bathrccans. <br />Mit~,h Lloyd, a resident of I~brkhern Orange County, said an infor-- <br />I', :;k.l : oll he condac'..ed indicated that voters ?sx that 2xea would support a <br />bond referendum if the only item on the band refer~dum was replac~s~nt of <br />Staxia-back Sd'iool. <br />Andrea Leutze-- a teacher in the Orange County School System--- <br />s~:id 5tanrll;ack was the cli--ly school still in service which was utilitized when <br />she was a child. She now teaches at Standback and listed sane of the pttr <br />blems named earlier as well as flies from the dumpster outside her class, <br />safety factors (school buses loading and unloading) and discipline problems; <br />lack of recreational space and storage spao~ and noise. <br />Lindsay Tapp, Principal at Stanback, reiterated the previous aamients, <br />ela~rorating oxz the maintenance problems. <br />
