1 <br />APPROVED 9/6J94 MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JUNE 6, 1994 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on <br />Monday, June 6, 1994 at the Caldwell Community Center in Rougemont, North <br />Carolina. <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Moses Carey, Jr., and Commissioners <br />Alice M. Gordon, Stephen H. Halkiotis, Verla C. Insko and Don Willhoit <br />COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant <br />County Managers Albert Kittrell and Rod Visser, EDC Director Ted Abernathy, <br />Deputy Clerk to the Board Kathy Baker, Clerk to the Board Beverly A. Blythe, <br />Planner Emily Cameron, Finance Director Ken Chavious, Senior Citizens Program <br />Administrator Kathy Kearns, Planner Eddie Kirk, Commission for Women Director <br />Lucy Lewis, Social Services Director Marti Pryor-Cook, Public Works Director <br />Wilbert McAdoo, Health Director Dan Reimer, County Engineer Paul Thames, EMS <br />Director Nick Waters and Planner Mary Willis <br />NOTE: ALL ITEMS REFERRED TO IN THESE MINUTES ARE IN THE PERMANENT AGENDA FILE <br />IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE <br />I. ADDITIONS OR CHANGES TO THE AGENDA <br />The appointments for the I-40/Old 86 Work Group and the Economic <br />Development Commission were moved from the Consent Agenda to item XI <br />Appointments. <br />The minutes for May 2 and May 23 were removed from the agenda. The <br />Board accepted a correction to the May 5 minutes. <br />Items N "Establish Public Hearing Date for Rural Character Strategies" <br />and Q "Process for Appointing Members to the Citizens' Advisory Committee on <br />the Integrated Solid Waste Study" were removed from the Consent agenda and <br />considered immediately following that agenda item. <br />II. AUDIENCE COMMENTS <br />A. MATTERS ON THE PRINTED AGENDA <br />Chair Carey announced that citizens who want to speak to an item <br />on the printed agenda will be recognized at the appropriate time. <br />B. MATTERS NOT ON THE PRINTED AGENDA <br />1. COMMUNITY CONCERNS - NONE <br />PUBLIC CHARGE <br />Chair Carey read the public charge. <br />III. BOARD COMMENTS <br />Commissioner Halkiotis said that the intersection of Miller Road and <br />NC86 is very dangerous and asked that the Manager contact the Department of <br />Transportation to determine if something can be done to eliminate the <br />confusion of entering NC57 from NC86. <br />
