ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY - CONSULTANT SELECTION <br /> The Board approved and authorized the Chair to sign an agreement <br /> with the Research Laboratories of Anthropology of the University of North <br /> Carolina. The consultant will conduct the archaeological survey as part of <br /> Phase III of the Historic Inventory at a cost of $20, 000. <br /> VOTE ON THE CONSENT AGENDA: UNANIMOUS <br /> ITEM REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA <br /> CLASSIFICATION PLAN AMENDMENT - ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT <br /> Motion was made by Commissioner Insko, seconded by Commissioner <br /> Halkiotis to approve an amendment to the Classification Plan changing the <br /> salary grade assignment for the class of Economic Development Assistant from <br /> Salary Grade 66 to Salary Grade 69. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> IV. RESOLUTIONS/PROCLAMATIONS - NONE <br /> V. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br /> A. CAT RURAL SYSTEM SAFETY AWARD <br /> In May, 1993 , the CAT Program received the North Carolina Public <br /> Transportation Association's 1992 Traffic and Passenger Safety Award. The <br /> award recognized rural transportation systems with 20 or more vehicles and <br /> excellent safety records. In 1992 the CAT system logged 281,489 miles without <br /> a chargeable accident. Chair Carey recognized the CAT Supervisor Kathy Lewis, <br /> the drivers and public works personnel. <br /> VI. PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> A. CHESTNUT OAKS HOUSING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM <br /> This item was presented to receive citizen comments prior to <br /> official closeout of the Chestnut Oaks Housing Development Program. The <br /> County received $175, 000 in Housing Development Grant funds from the <br /> Department of Commerce in December, 1990, to be used for street improvements <br /> in the Habitat for Humanity subdivision known as Chestnut Oaks. All project <br /> activities have been completed. <br /> John Hartwell stated that these grant funds helped Habitat with <br /> this project. Habitat now has a fulltime executive director and construction <br /> supervisor. Their goal is to build eight (8) houses next year. They need to <br /> locate land in the northern end of the county. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by <br /> Commissioner Gordon to close the public hearing and to authorize execution of <br />
