elder care, environmental protection, social services, job <br /> training, emergency management services, drug and alcohol abuse <br /> treatment, law enforcement, water and sewer services, and <br /> library services; and <br /> WHEREAS, Citizens may develop an increased awareness about county <br /> services and resources through outreach efforts provided by <br /> County officials. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, We, the Orange County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaim <br /> the week of April 17 - 24, 1993 as ORANGE COUNTY GOVERNMENT <br /> WEER, and further encourage all citizens to become familiar <br /> with the services provided by Orange County government. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> D. TELECOMMUNICATOR WEER PROCLAMATION <br /> Motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner <br /> Halkiotis to proclaim the week of April 11 through April 17 as National Public <br /> Safety Telecommunicators Week as stated below: <br /> TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, Thousands of dedicated Telecommunicators daily serve the <br /> citizens of the United States and Canada by answering their <br /> telephone calls for police, fire and emergency medical services <br /> by dispatching the appropriate assistance as quickly as <br /> possible; and <br /> WHEREAS, The critical functions performed by professional Telecommuni- <br /> cators also include those related to forestry and conservation <br /> operations, highway safety and maintenance activities, and many <br /> other operations performed by federal, state and local <br /> government agencies; and <br /> WHEREAS, Professional Telecommunicators work to improve the emergency <br /> response capabilities of these communication systems through <br /> their leadership and participation in training programs and <br /> other activities provided by the Associated Public-Safety <br /> Communications Officers, Inc. ; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Associated Public-Safety Communications Officers, Inc. , an <br /> organization of nearly 10, 000 people engaged in the design, <br /> installation and operation of emergency response <br /> communications, has set aside the week beginning April 11, 1993 <br /> to recognize Telecommunicators and their crucial role in the <br /> protection of life and property; and <br /> WHEREAS, The telecommunicators of Orange County answer over 450,000 <br /> phone calls and initiate over 85,000 responses for Orange <br /> County citizens in their time of need; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, We, The Orange County Board of Commissioners, hereby proclaim <br /> the week of April 11 - 17, 1993 as "National Public Safety <br />
