income housing, improved regional and county telephone service, federal <br />funding assistance to federally mandated programs, and many other important <br />issues; and <br />WHEREAS, Herb Stout inspired many others to become involved in civic, <br />educational and social service areas; and <br />WHEREAS, we, along with his family, friends, colleagues, and <br />constituents, shall deeply miss his spirited, creative, caring and generous <br />nature; <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners that the Board hereby honors the public service of our <br />colleague and friend <br />HERB STOUT <br />and urges all citizens to remember him for his commitment to public service <br />which contributed to the quality of life in Orange County and the other <br />Triangle communities and truly made the Triangle a better place because of <br />his leadership. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner <br />Halkiotis to approve the resolution as stated below in remembrance of Brian <br />Benson: <br />RESOLUTION IN MEMORY OF BRIAN BENSON <br />WHEREAS, Brian Benson joined the Triangle J Council of Governments <br />in 1985 as a Senior Planner in Physical Development and was promoted to the <br />position of Director of Land Use and Development, serving with distinction <br />until his untimely death on February 18, 1992; and <br />WHEREAS, Brian Benson worked diligently to coordinate local and <br />regional planning issues and led the development of the Geographic <br />Information System at the Triangle J Council of Governments; and <br />WHEREAS, Brian Benson effectively staffed the Regional Appearance <br />Commission and the Triangle Development Awards program and served on other <br />regional committees concerned with land use, transportation, and community <br />appearance; and <br />WHEREAS, Brian Benson rendered distinguished service to Orange County <br />as a land use and community development planner from 1978 to 1980, and <br />authored successful Community Development Block Grants during each year of <br />his tenure with the Orange County Planning Department, thereby contributing <br />to neighborhood revitalization in the County; and <br />WHEREAS, Brian Benson was a dedicated, energetic and highly talented <br />professional who worked well with public and private leaders and planners <br />all over the Triangle region; and <br />WHEREAS, we, along with his family, friends and colleagues, shall <br />deeply miss his cooperative, warm and kind nature; <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners that the Board hereby honors the public service of <br />BRIAN BENSON <br />and urges all citizens to remember him and his contributions to the people <br />of Orange County and the Triangle region. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />O.
