~~~ <br />l~tt~~~'~'ti'~ <br />~~V K~:r <br />Agenda Item 5: Oran a Count Veterans Re resentative <br />5 eak Concernin a eterans Service <br />Officer. <br />Mr. Ray spoke in favor of. a Veterans' Service Officer for Orange County. <br />Me said there was mare than $4 million coming into Orange County for Veterans <br />and the figure should~be higher; a Service Officer would facilitate a <br />higher figure as well as aiding veterans and tJieir survivors in obtaining <br />benefits. Mr. Wright spoke in favor of a Veterans' Service Officer and <br />related personal experiences. Mr. Kenyon also spoke in favor of such an <br />Officer .for Orange County. Commissioner Barnes told the audience of a re- <br />port which recommended a Service Officer far Orange County; she instructed <br />the Clerk to duplicate this report and send it to those who requested it. <br />She told the audience of the hiring freeze and the proper procedure to <br />request an exception to it. Ms. Barbour said it was -,ot fair to citizens <br />not to be permitted to speak during the budget work sessions; they did not <br />have enauyh input into the sessions. Commissioner Barnes responded by <br />saying via the phone and mail she received ample citizen input into the <br />budget p;•ocess and the public hearing on the budget would be June I6, every- <br />one was encouraged to participate. The Clerk was instructed to place • <br />P1r. Ray on the mailing list for the budget sessions. <br />P.genda Item 6: Amendment to the County's F1ood.Dama_ge <br />Prevention Ordinance.- <br />Mr. Fred Luce of the Planning Staff addressed the Board. The Federal <br />Emergency Management Agency told him that there was one section which <br />should be deleted in order to bring the Orange County Flood Damage Pre- <br />vention Ordinance into compl'.ance with their regulations, that is, Sert'ion <br />4.2 (e). Commissioner Gustaveson moved, seconded by Commissioner Whittpd, <br />to delete Section 4.2 (2) of the County's Flood pamage prevention Ord- <br />finance. Vote: Ayes, 5; noes, 0. <br />The Board did not wish to consider the Planning Board's recoro~iendation <br />to extend coverage to areas not covered by the present ordinance, citing <br />a possibility of over-regulation. <br />Agenda Item 7: Hillsborough Requests Plumbin~_Inspections <br />of Orange County <br />Mr. Po1atty, Planning Director, said the Town of Hillsborough had re- <br />quested Orange County's Inspection.
