.a ~ .: , <br />. 5 r-l : ~ r~ 1. <br />Agenda Item 8: The Manager Recommends Execution of a <br />Financing A reement with First Continental <br />Leasing Corporation. <br />' The Board asked if this agreement was the best deal for the County; <br />Mr. Rees,'~~Purchasing Agent, said that option #3 (First Continental) amounted <br />to about 9% compounded interest and this financing agreement would lessen our <br />repair/maintenance cost. Mr. Gledhill, County Attorney, said this option #3 <br />has a very low interest rate. ' <br />Commissioner Gus~taveson moved to accept the Manager's recommendation of <br />financing agreement with First Continental Corporation. Commissioner Whitted <br />seconded-the motion. Vote: Ayes, 5; Nves, 0. <br />The Board asked why the County was locked into a State Contract for <br />the purchase of vehicles. The Manager. said the County has to commit to State <br />Contract several months in advance ~f actually buying or before the County <br />~, <br />is ready to buy. Once the County.:`agrees to the State Contract for the purchase <br />of vehicles the County is committed to honor that agreement.. Mr. Rees said <br />the State Contract was cheaper than companies bidding nationally. The Board <br />voiced its concern over the limited types of vehicles the State Contract <br />offered the County; and questioned the repair. record of those vehicles.- <br />Mr. Rees said the Che.vette rated average over a period of four years. . <br />The Board directed the purchasing agent to.go to some local dealers <br />and get informal bids on comparable vehicles and to obtain more information <br />regarding the repair records of those cars. The Board asked the Public Works <br />Director, Mr. Ron Phillips, to contact his counterpart in Chapel Hill, <br />Mr. Harris, regarding the purchase of vehicles under State Contract and the <br />repair records of vehicles. <br />Agenda Item 7:(cont'd) <br />A eals of Tax Assessments: <br />B. John Paliouras <br />Cammi~ssioner Whitted moved, and Commissioner Walker seconded, to adjust <br />the rate of James Paliouras to 5% and John Paliouras to 5% plus his vehicle. <br />Vote: Ayes, 5; Noes, 0. <br />Agenda Item 9: <br />Appointments <br />A. Commissioner Whitted moved that Commissioner Walker be appointed <br />to the Senior Citizen's Board to serve a term concurrent with hi s. term as <br />County Commissioner; Commissioner Barnes seconded the motion. Vote: <br />Ayes, 4; Noes, 0. (Commissioner Gustaveson was not in the room for this vote.) <br />
