She would like to see a regional map of Orange County and the surrounding <br /> areas that shows the other options considered. She said that the County Commissioners <br /> would have to discuss how to move the traffic through the County. She would like to know the <br /> pros and cons of doing what the State says versus other options of proceeding or not. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier asked what the hurry is regarding this plan. She said that the <br /> DOT identified this as a major corridor, but there are farms up and down this road. <br /> Planning Director Craig Benedict made reference to the rush on this and said that <br /> NCDOT staff has offered to help the County with the plan. NCDOT is saying that if NC 86 is <br /> taken off the vision plan, then it is a very long process and would take years to do, and NCDOT <br /> would then drop the CTP and not help Orange County with it because it would not be <br /> consistent with the vision plan. He said that there are alternatives such as the regional view, <br /> and he has met with Mebane representatives to talk about the 119 Bypass. He said that <br /> NCDOT did not look at these other options and there is a lot of work to get NCDOT to come in <br /> line with the local vision. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said that he endorsed Commissioner Gordon's comments. <br /> Before he is ready to act, he would like to know what actual control Orange County has at a <br /> local level. He said that he would rather see this promote "strategic corridors concept that <br /> supports Orange County's land use planning." He said that he has not seen a lot to trust with <br /> NCDOT and that they will take Orange County's planning issues seriously if it does not suit <br /> them. He said that he would like to have an opportunity to know about the decision-making <br /> process. He would also like to see the rest of the survey. Karen Lincoln said that this is <br /> available online and she could email the link. <br /> Karen Lincoln said that the next step in the process would be to come back with the <br /> survey results. She said that she had asked NCDOT through the RPO to help Orange County <br />
