Ms. Jennifer Powell, Ms. Sally Bernard, and Ms. Sharmane Miner <br /> requested the Board consider favorably the funding requests of the <br /> women's Health Counseling Service. <br /> Ms. Alice Straus, Volunteer for Rape Crisis Center, read <br /> a letter from a rape victim served by the Rape Crisis Center and <br /> requested the Board consider funding this worthwhile agency. <br /> Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board member Ed Caldwell, spoke <br /> in favor of the district tax and discussed problems brought about by <br /> inflation and mandated services with no accompanying funds. <br /> Ms. Ellen Scouten, Assistant District Attorney, and <br /> Deputy Sheriff David Hughes, spoke to the valuable services rendered <br /> by the Rape Crisis Center and the importance of these services in <br /> the judicial system. <br /> Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board member Verla Insko thanked <br /> the Board for its continued support of public education in Orange County. <br /> She spoke to the per pupil allocation. and expressed her desire not to <br /> see programs cut. <br /> Ms. Joy Williams, teacher in Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools, requested <br /> the Commissioners consider funding the schools at the highest possible <br /> level. <br /> Ms. Majorie Hill spoke in favor of more fully funding the <br /> I. <br /> Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Orange County Schools and spoke in favor of <br /> supplemental tax. <br /> 'i. <br /> li Mr. Boyd Newman spoke in favor of fully funding the Chapel Hill <br /> Carrboro schools' request. <br /> I ' <br /> Ms. Mary Pridgen requested the Board commit funds to day care. <br /> Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board member Jim Riddle spoke about <br /> 4 the effects of inflation. <br /> ii <br /> Ms. Beverly Mulvihill, Ms. Ann Murphy and Ms. Margaret Shepherd <br /> spoke in favor of additional funding for day care. <br /> Dr. Ted Parrish spoke in favor or expenditures for Human. <br /> Services. <br /> Ms. Helen Dempsey and Ms. Patty Paddock spoke in support <br /> of monies spent for day care. <br /> I _ <br /> � -2- <br />
