ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: March 2, 2010
Action Agenda
Item No. ~-' ~
SUBJECT: Declaring Four Pieces of Landfill Equipment Surplus
DEPARTMENT: AMPS and Solid Waste PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
ATTACHMENT(S):
INFORMATION CONTACT:
Pam Jones, AMPS, 245-2652
Gayle Wilson, Solid Waste, 968-2788
__
PURPOSE: To consider declaring four pieces of heavy equipment as surplus property.
BACKGROUND: In March of 2006 the Board authorized the disposal of surplus personal
property and confiscated property through GovDeals, an online auction service. The Director of
Asset Management and Purchasing Services is authorized to declare items surplus up to
$5,000. Currently the Landfill has the following four pieces of equipment that are no longer
needed and therefore need to be sold. It is anticipated all will exceed the $5,000 threshold.
ITEM SERIAL NUMBER
2000 Terex TS14G Pan/Scra er S4261075
1999 Terex TS14D-11 Pan/Scra er S7361090
2002 Komatsu 155AX Dozer 75089
1999 Mack Roll Off Truck 1 M2P267CXXM044307
The heavy equipment was primarily utilized during the construction of both landfills. Due to the
length of hauling cover material from the borrow area for daily cover, the scraper pans are no
longer used in daily operations. The dozer assisted in this operation and is also no longer
utilized. The Mack truck repair cost has exceeded its value and is no longer in service. No
maintenance and repair costs have been budgeted for this equipment for the past several
years.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Proceeds from the sale of these items, less any applicable fees, will be
returned to the Solid Waste Operations budget.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board: 1) declare the items
surplus, and 2) authorize the AMPS Director to effect the sale of the items through GovDeals.
