3 <br />Department of Social Services <br />4. The Department of Social Services has received the following donations from citizens: <br />Foster Care Donations - donated funds totaling $1,310 from citizens of Orange <br />County to help with the needs of foster care clients. <br />• General Assistance Donations -donated funds totaling $2,750 to help with special- <br />needs clients, including seniors. <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of the above stated funds. These funds are set- <br />aside in a special Adoption Enhancement Fund, outside the General Fund. <br />Library Services <br />5. Library Services has received a $19,000 donation, from the Friends of the Library, for the new <br />Main Library in Hillsborough. Staff will spend the funds on furnishings at the facility. This <br />budget amendment provides for the receipt of these funds for the above stated purpose. (See <br />Attachment 5, County Campus/Library/Gateway Center Capital Project Ordinance.) <br />6. Library Services has received revenue for the following General Fund programs: <br />• Public Internet Access - E-Rate discount funds totaling $3,014 to improve Internet <br />access on public computers. In accordance with the Federal Telecommunications Act <br />of 1996, the Orange County Library receives discounts for telecommunication services <br />offered by Embarq. There is no County match required for the receipt of these funds. <br />• Children's Summer Reading Program -grant funds totaling $1,000 from Wal-Mart to <br />fund several interactive children's activities, including after school programs and book <br />week programming. There is no County match required for the receipt of these funds. <br />(See Attachment 7, column 4) <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Financial impacts are included in the background information above. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board of County Commissioners <br />approve budget and grant project ordinance amendments for fiscal year 2009-10. <br />
