MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> JANUARY 15, 1980 <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on <br /> Tuesday, January 15, 1980, at 7:30 p.m., in the Superior Courtroom, Orange <br /> County Courthouse, in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> Commissioners present: Commissioner Richard Whitted, Chairman, and <br /> Commissioners Norman Walker, Norman Gustaveson, Anne Barnes and Don Willhoit. <br /> The Chairman called for a public hearing to convene concerning the <br /> naming of certain public roads in Orange County. <br /> Mr. John Forrest, Chairman of the Orange County Road Naming.Advisory <br /> Committee, gave some background information concerning the efforts of the <br /> Road Naming Advisory Committee and presented the Board with a listing of <br /> recommended road names for various Orange County roads. For copy of this <br /> listing, see page 190 of this book. <br /> Mr. Forrest requested the name Shelton Road (#1560) be deleted from <br /> the list since he had received a petition concerning the naming of this road. <br /> Chairman Whitted told persons in the audience that petitions to change <br /> road names were available and if there were objections to the recommended names, <br /> those names could be deleted. Chairman Whitted opened the floor to public <br /> comment. <br /> Reverend Steve Compton, speaking on behalf of the members of the Chestnut <br /> Ridge Methodist Church, requested road # 1125 be named Chestnut Ridge Church <br /> Road. <br /> Mr. Dave Shanklin, member of the Road Naming Advisory Committee, said <br /> the committee had left off the word church due to the size of the road sign. <br /> Mr. Forrest said he did not believe the committee would have any objections to <br /> adding the word church to the road name. <br /> Reverend Compton said he did not object to the use of abbreviations on <br /> the sign itself. <br /> Mr. Arch McAdoo requested road #1378 be named Oak Street. He pointed <br /> out road # 1325 is listed as Oak Street in the Committee's recommendations. <br /> Mr. Doug Efland, member of the Road Naming Advisory Committee, explained <br /> road # 1325 was named Oak Street after researching property deeds along <br /> the road. <br />
