ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMNIISSIONERS <br /> Orange County Government Week <br /> April -12, 2008 <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, the nation's 3,066 counties provide a variety of essential public services to <br /> communities serving 300 million Americans; and <br /> WHEREAS, in appearance and characteristics, these counties differ as widely as the <br /> nation of which they area a part; and <br /> WHEREAS, the role of county governments has become increasingly complex and <br /> sophisticated as the demands placed upon them continue to grow; and <br /> WHEREAS,the National Association of Counties is the only national organization that <br /> represents county governments in the United States—raising awareness and <br /> understanding of county contributions, advancing with a unified voice county issues <br /> before the federal government, assisting through research and education in finding and <br /> sharing innovative solutions to county concerns, and providing value-added information <br /> and technical services to help counties save taxpayers' money; and <br /> WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties first celebrated National County <br /> Government Week in 1991 to raise public awareness and understanding of how counties <br /> strive to meet the needs of growing and diverse communities; and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County government invites and encourages all residents to become <br /> active and stay involved in working vigorously towards solutions for the public good; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners do hereby proclaim April 6-12, 2008 as National County Government <br /> Week in Orange County, North Carolina. <br /> This, the 1 st day of April 2008. <br /> is <br /> 17 '2 <br /> Barry Jacobs, Chair <br /> / Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> rtr gala <br />
