l~~S" a,eo~- oa6 <br />~- l~'-aco~' <br />3~ <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMIVIISSIONERS <br />RESOLUTION REMEMBERING <br />EVE CARSON <br />WHEREAS, the loss of any human life by violent means is a tragedy; and, <br />WHEREAS, Eve Cazson, University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill Student Body President, <br />Morehead Scholaz and member of Phi Beta Kappa, served the people of the University, <br />Orange County, the region and international communities; and, <br />WHEREAS, Eve Cazson was an asset to the UNC community, working hazd in leadership and service <br />roles that included being a member of the UNC-Chapel Hill Boazd of Trustees; co- <br />president of the Honors Program Student Executive Board; and a member of the <br />Committee on Scholazships, Awazds and Student Aid; the Academic Advising Program; <br />the Chancellor's committee for University Teaching Awazds; and, <br />WHEREAS, Eve Carson served the local community teaching and working at Frank Porter Graham <br />Elementary School in Chapel Hill as part of UNC's INSPIRE program; tutoring at Githens <br />Middle School in Durham; coaching in the Girls on the Run of the Triangle, a character <br />development program for girls ages 8-12 that uses running to teach values and a sense of <br />self; and, <br />WHEREAS, Eve Carson represented the "Cazolina Way" as she personified commitment to UNC's <br />prestigious reputation, support for students, academic freedom and service to global causes; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, on the morning of Mazch 5, 2008, Eve Cazson's life was tragically taken in a senseless act <br />of violence, leaving our community devoid of the potential she held as a compassionate and <br />loving human being; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />recognizes the outstanding contributions that Eve Carson provided to Orange County and <br />beyond; wishes to honor her life by continuing to serve the causes she cared so deeply <br />about; and commits to working with local authorities to do everything within our power to <br />extinguish violent crime from our community. <br />This the 18`~ day of Mazch 2008 <br /> <br />acobs, <br />Valefie Foushee, <br />• ~~ <br />Moses Cazey, Jr., Commissi Alice Gordon, Commissioner Mike Nelson, Commissioner <br />
