Bradshaw Quarry Road Solid Waste Convenience Center: Scenarios and
Strategies to Maintain Operations for Remainder Fiscal Year 2009-10
The Board considered operating scenarios and funding strategies for continuing the
Bradshaw Quarry Solid Waste County Convenience Center for the remainder of FY 2009 —
2010.
Solid Waste Director Gayle Wilson said that when the Board of County Commissioners
adopted the current year's budget, it included a number of Solid Waste service reductions.
Among those was the closure of the Bradshaw Quarry Solid Waste Convenience Center. At
the Board's September 15th meeting, it rescinded that closure and instructed that the center
remain open for the remainder of the calendar year. On October 201h, the Board adopted a
budget amendment providing that funding. At that meeting, the Board also requested staff to
come back to this meeting to discuss funding possibilities to keep the site open for the
remainder of the budget year. He noted that the Solid Waste Planning Work Group is
evaluating longer options for the unincorporated area, including the role of convenience
centers in the future and how they might be funded. The work group requested that the Board
of County Commissioners be briefed on the work group activity to date at the January meeting.
The costs of keeping this facility open at its current schedule for the remainder of the budget
year is about $43,000.
