Board Comments <br />Commissioner Hemminger asked to have the item regarding hunting deer with dogs <br />brought back for discussion. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Yuhasz, seconded by Commissioner Hemminger <br />to have the issue regarding hunting deer with dogs come back as a discussion item to the <br />Board of County Commissioners. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />Frank Clifton said that there is a meeting scheduled tomorrow with citizens about this. <br />Commissioner Jacobs asked for an update on tethering dogs. <br />Commissioner Jacobs said that there is a deadline while the Board of County <br />Commissioners is on recess to comment to the Department of Transportation on the Elizabeth <br />Brady Road Extension. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Chair Foushee to have <br />something on the agenda for December 15, 2009 that states a County position in opposition to <br />Elizabeth Brady Road Extension and stipulates the alternatives that have been suggested to <br />DOT for the same money that would alleviate traffic concerns in the Hillsborough area. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />Commissioner Jacobs invited people on December 10th at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Taurari will <br />make a presentation at the County Commissioners' request on the Cornelius Street Economic <br />Development possibilities. Dr. Taurari's class has been working on this issue this semester. <br />Commissioner Gordon said that Senator Ellie Kinnaird organized a meeting with <br />Transportation Secretary Gene Conti in November to discuss the Elizabeth Brady Road <br />Extension and possible alternatives. The meeting was attended by two Hillsborough Town <br />Board members, Commissioner Gordon, and other individuals. Secretary Conti agreed to <br />seriously consider the concerns raised, and work to find a solution. He said that if it looked like <br />Elizabeth Brady Road Extension would not be viable, then they could consider other <br />alternatives. She will send more information in an email. <br />Chair Foushee said that she met with Senator Kinnaird last week to talk about the <br />2010-11 budget year, and Senator Kinnaird confirmed that the State expects a shortfall. There <br />was also a discussion about stimulus funding and how Orange County might be more <br />competitive in receiving funding. Senator Kinnaird said that she would set up a meeting with <br />Chair Foushee and Dempsey Benton to talk about being more competitive. <br />Chair Foushee said that she and Commissioner Nelson met with Carolyn Efland of <br />UNC to talk about transit in Orange County and how it will be part of the regional transit <br />operation. <br />Commissioner Yuhasz said that the Board had a retreat last week about boards and <br />commissions, and part of that discussion was that the Board was to get information back about <br />overlaps between boards and which boards should be removed, adjusted, or combined.
