9 <br />PLANNING TECHNICIAN <br />Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in <br />using office equipment. <br />Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment. Must <br />have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. <br />Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades <br />of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for <br />small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc. <br />Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving <br />instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons <br />acting under stress. <br />Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or <br />exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.) Must <br />be able to communicate via a telephone. <br />PERFORMANCE INDICATORS <br />Knowledge of Job: <br />Has basic knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of the Planning and Inspections <br />Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Planning Technician Has knowledge <br />of the functions and interrelationships of the County and other governmental agencies. <br />Has knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific <br />duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge of the principles and practices of <br />planning, zoning, and land use. Has knowledge of the County's Zoning Ordinance and land use, <br />subdivision, and landscape regulations. <br />Is skilled in the use of a personal computer and word processing, spreadsheet, graphics design, <br />geographic information system, and database software packages. <br />Is skilled in the use of office equipment such as a calculator, copier, scanner, facsimile machine, <br />telephone, and standard audiovisual equipment. <br />Is able to research and undertake projects related to County planning and development. Is capable <br />of accepting a project from start to completion. <br />Is able to help ensure that standards of the department are met in all work performed. <br />Has basic knowledge of planning and development and land use terminology. <br />Is able to coordinate efforts of the department with other County departments in order to accomplish <br />goals and complete projects. <br />Is able to use independent judgment in routine situations. <br />4 <br />
