33 <br />Fire and police protection are provided by the towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough <br />within their respective jurisdictions. In the unincorporated areas of the County fire protection is <br />provided in 12 fire districts pursuant to contracts between the County, the municipalities and vari- <br />ous fire departments. Police protection in the unincorporated areas of the County is provided by the <br />County Sheriffs Department. <br />The County's Emergency Services Department provides four general areas of countywide emer- <br />gency assistance: emergency communications (911), emergency medical services, fire marshall and <br />emergency management. Volunteer rescue squads work jointly with the County to provide a signifi- <br />cant amount of such services. <br />Debt Information <br />LEGAL DEBT LIMIT <br />In accordance with the provisions of the State Constitution and The Local Government Bond <br />Act, as amended, the County had the statutory capacity to incur additional net debt in an approx- <br />imate amount of $1,070,000,000 as of October 31, 2009.
