24 <br />The Town of Chapel Hill, home of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is the larg- <br />est municipality in the County, and its population plus that of the adjacent Town of Carrboro com- <br />prises 56% of the total estimated County population of 129,296. The Town of Hillsborough, the <br />County seat, and surrounding area are expected to experience accelerated growth, because of their <br />location adjacent to Interstate Highways 85 and 40. <br />Interstate Highway 40 connects the County directly with the Research Triangle Park and Ra- <br />leigh-Durham International Airport. The City of Mebane, home of most of the County's major manu- <br />facturing employers, is on the westernmost boundary of the County. A major portion of the City of <br />Mebane lies in neighboring Alamance County.
