Box 8181 <br /> Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278 <br /> Subject: Orange County Employee Pay and Benefits. <br /> Dear Laura; <br /> The Employee Relations Consortium (ERC) is a group of appointed County employees <br /> representing the interests of our respective departments. ERC fosters effective employee <br /> relations by: <br /> ❑ Advocating for employee needs, ideas, and concerns, <br /> ❑ Encouraging and facilitating opportunities for community involvement and employee <br /> professional development, <br /> ❑ Sharing information with all County employees, and <br /> ❑ Providing input and promoting dialogue with management. <br /> Through our various committees and through active partnership with the Orange County Human <br /> Resources Department, the ERC has championed better employee education and awareness of <br /> our health care benefits. The results of our efforts have lowered Orange County health care <br /> costs to the point they have stayed under budget. We look forward to continuing our positive <br /> collaboration with Human Resources. <br /> With the ERC Mission in mind, we understand today's critical economic situation as it relates to <br /> County budgeting and the ERC aspires to work with management to address the current <br /> conditions affecting all of us. We understand budgeted County revenues are not meeting <br /> projections and state revenues are off. We appreciate the public commitment management has <br /> made to work to retain present employees and to avoid layoffs or furloughs. We also <br /> understand pay raises are not feasible. <br /> Please keep in mind that employee bills still have to be paid. We understand pay and benefits <br /> will not increase during the next budget year, but when the economy picks back up please do <br /> not forget the hardships many employees are facing today.
