ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING & INSPECTIONS DEPARTMENT
Craig N- Benedict, AICP, Director
Administration 306F Revero Road
(919) 644-3002 (FAX) Hillsborough, NC 27278
,_~
Valerie McMillan, Director
State Environmental Review Clearinghouse
NC Department of Administration
116 West Jones Street
Fifth Floor, Suite,5106
Raleigh, NC 27699-1301
- -
hand-delivery Address is for |
Dear Ms. McMillan:
This is a request to place the enclosed AppliGation for Environmental Assessment into the
State Clearinghouse system for review and comment. The material has been submitted to
out department by the firm of Olver Incorporated for review in accordance with provisions of
the Environmental Impact Ordinance of Orange County.
This assessment is submitted as a prerequisite to possible construction of a Solid Waste
Transfer Station on a tract in the Chapel Hill Township in Orange County. This submittal
for a Solid Waste Transfer Station is similar to a different site Orange County considered
earlier this year. Orange County owns the tract now under consideration. The site is
immediately north of the existing landfill site and in the vicinity of the Town of Chapel Hill's
Operations Center. It is further identified by Parcel Identification Number 9871-60-7301.
(Please see the attached map). The site will most likely be served by a well and a ground
absorption septic system although other alternatives are currently being explored.
The entire site is zoned Agricultural Residential (AR) and is within Orange County's
planning jurisdiction. The site is not within a State Protected Water Supply Watershed.
The tract size is 10 acres and it is likely that almost al] of the tract will be subject to land
disturbance. A governmental facility such as a Solid Waste Transfer Station is a permitted
use in the AR district.
